Eating well and being healthy go hand-in- hand

There’s a strong link between eating properly and being healthy: proper nutrition is essential for preventing a large number of diseases, including so-called “lifestyle diseases” such as obesity, type-2 diabetes and heart disease.

These health problems stem partly from longer life expectancies but also from unhealthy lifestyles and diets that fail to provide a balanced intake of nutrients.

Overeating, being overweight and obesity have become widespread problems and are extremely costly for society. On the one hand, they are one of the main drivers of rising medical costs and the overburdening of national health services and, on the other, they contribute significantly to the reduced economic productivity of the individuals concerned.

In many developed countries, rather than being linked to an inability to access sufficient or good-quality food, the causes of malnutrition are rooted in the cultural and social aspects of people’s lives. Quite often, in fact, our diet can be influenced by factors related to traditions, culture or an insufficient understanding of our body’s nutritional needs.

As a result, it is important to promote diets that are not just healthy, but satisfy people’s needs, tastes and lifestyles. With our “Eating fish is good” and “Fuels Sport” projects, Rio Mare is committed to encouraging people to adopt healthy diets and active, balanced lifestyles that can improve health and well-being.
