MORE AND MORE SUSTAINABLE NUTRITION
More and more sustainable nutrition
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, established by the United Nations in 2015, provides a common framework for international cooperation consisting of 17 interconnected global goals, known as “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs), in which nutrition and food systems play a key role.
As a leading supplier of fish and fish-based products, we can have a direct impact on at least four of these 17 global goals, not only by providing safe and sustainable food, but also by promoting healthier and more balanced eating habits.

Providing adequate nutritional profile products and promoting positive food education among consumers.

Promoting socially impactful initiatives and programmes related to food.

Educating consumers about sustainable consumption. Developing product technologies that reduce food waste.

Ensuring responsible fishing practices.

We are committed to providing high-quality products offering the best nutritional standards, and which are developed based on the latest scientific findings and the changing needs of consumers.
1. Improving our products in terms of their composition and nutritional properties while maintaining the same great taste.
Shortening and simplifying lists of ingredients, reducing or eliminating ingredients that consumers view in a negative light. In particular:
• Reducing the amount of added salt by at least 10% by 2025, in accordance with global recommendations for reducing salt consumption.
• Replacing 100% of artificial flavourings with natural ones and/or herbs and/or spices in all our products by 2025, and to avoid using them in new products when possible.
• Eliminating 100% of colourings or replacing them with natural ingredients in all products by 2025 while avoiding their use in new products.
• Reducing the amount of added sugar in all products containing sauces by at least 20% by 2025, and avoiding sugar in new products where possible.
2. Ensuring quality and safety throughout our value chain. This is achieved:
• By methodically selecting ingredients based on high-quality standards and constantly cross-checking products with the support of qualified laboratories and state-of-the-art technology.
• By preserving the nutritional value of our products with technology and suitable packaging.
• By continuously monitoring potential issues, in particular: the percentage of contaminants, such as heavy metals, contained in our tuna products, in order to maintain safety standards above those required by health authorities (we are progressing with a plan to transition to BPA-free cans by 2025).
• By meticulously checking suppliers to ensure that they adhere to the same quality standards we set for ourselves.
We are committed to helping people to adopt healthier and more balanced lifestyles, enhancing fish consumption in the countries where we operate.
1. Safeguarding and improving the health of our oceans and fish stocks by adopting fishing practices that allow us to reach the following objectives:
• 100% responsibly sourced tuna by 2024.
• The sourcing of all other species from MSC-certified fisheries and/or comprehensive and credible Fisheries Improvement Projects (FIP), from farms certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and/or from Aquaculture Improvement Projects (AIP).
2. Getting as much value as possible from the fish we use by increasing yield within our production processes, promoting complementary products and minimising waste.
3. Improving our social impact by strengthening our partnership in Europe with Banco Alimentare and other NGOs.
We are committed to helping people to adopt healthier and more balanced lifestyles, enhancing fish consumption in the countries where we operate.

2. Conveying in a clear, comprehensive and transparent manner, the quality of our products on packaging and through digital touch points, such as websites, to:
• Ensure the gradual introduction of clear, easy and intuitive labelling throughout our entire product portfolio, meeting consumer expectations regarding the clarity of wording on packaging.
• Use traceability to inform consumers about the origin of our products, their sustainability and nutritional value.
